The North Tonawanda Department of Recreation & Parks has announced the commencement of their tree planting program. For the cost of $85 residents can purchase a tree for their front terrace area (between sidewalk and street) or they can purchase a tree to be planted in select public parks through the PlaNT it Forward Program. The PlaNT it Forward program is an initiative allowing the community to invest in the urban canopy of NT's public places, by purchasing a tree which will be planted and cared for by Parks staff and benefit the community for years to come. With the purchase of the tree in a park space, participants will also receive a "PlaNT it Forward" tee shirt as a thank you for the investment. New this year is a small selection of evergreen trees for select parks. Due to the higher cost of these trees, the cost for these specific trees is $100/tree. The available tree guide for both street and park trees is available at our online store at www.ntparksrec.com along with instructions for which trees are approved for which locations. Specific trees are approved for planting under powerlines, while other larger tree species are approved for other areas specific to the soil type, location conditions etc. Once the guide is reviewed a tree purchase can be made directly online.
