News: Botanical Gardens Organization Announces Internship Opportunity

Made available through a NYSDEC grant award, the North Tonawanda Botanical Garden Organization in partnership with the NT Parks & Recreation Department has launched an internship program.  The program involves the operational procedures for managing WNY native plant propagation and sustainability at the North Tonawanda Botanical Garden (NTBG).

Interns will learn
  • documentation of greenhouse, outdoor propagation and site restoration procedures.
  • grant writing basics and compile content for applications.
  • documentation of greenhouse and plant stock management tasks.
Some of the typical assignments are listed below.
  • Research components: Collect and test on site storm water samples.
  • Collect and test on site soil samples
  • Collect and store seed stock.
  • Select greenhouse stock for direct planting to wetland/shoreline restorations. Control invasive species.
  • Grant Applications: Review RFA’s. Develop application content and upload.
There will be a research component to the internship which will include focus on
  • Best management practices for habitat development and bio-retention areas 
  • Green infrastructure planning and stormwater run-off management 

Internships will be 10 hours/week for a 6-month period.
