News: Celebrating the Canal: Boat Parade

The NT Parks and Recreation Department in collaboration with The Buffalo Launch Club (America's first motorboat club) and Tonawanda Parks & Recreation will be hosting a Boat Parade on Saturday August 16 from 11:30am-2pm.  Boats of all sizes and types will be decorated and departing from the Buffalo Launch Club, making their way down the Niagara River (viewable from Niwanda Park) at 11:30am, and entering the Erie Canal at Tonawandas Gateway Harbor at approximately 12:00pm. 

On the North Tonawanda side of the canal at Gateway Harbor, there will be live "canal" music performed by Creek Bend, and family friendly activities which include Balloon Art by Big Al's Balloons, crafts and a game zone brought to you by the NT Parks and Recreation Department. 

Onlookers are encourage to come down to Gateway Harbor (bring a chair) and enjoy the view as the boat parade (led by the Buffalo Maritime Center's Erie Canal Boat Seneca Chief) enters the canal, loops passed the train bridge and exists back out to the Niagara River and back to the Buffalo Launch Club.   

The Buffalo Launch Club will be hosting family friendly activities from 12:00-4:30 including a car show, bounce house, pony rides, foam cannon, face painting and more.  Participation require purchase of an event ticket which covers food and beverages. Other Notes:

Happening in tandem with the Boat Parade festivities at Gateway Harbor, is the Carnegie Art Spree which will feature artisans and vendors lining the streets.  Join us for downtown for a great event!
