The City has begun it's Tree Inventory process, as part of a recently awarded NYS DEC grant.  Certified arborists from PlantIT Geo will be taking to the streets of North Tonawanda to inventory all city trees in the right of way.  The City estimates approximately 13,000 trees will be inventoried, which will include GIS coordinates of each tree, along with a assessment as to the type of tree, condition, size, etc.  This information will create a database which the City will be able to use to initiate a preventative maintenance and management plan.  It will also aid the City in budgeting for the investment in new plantings which will strategically be mapped out as part of the process.  Upon completion of the inventory, PlanIT Geo will also work with the City to complete a Community Forest Management Plan which will serve to assist North Tonawanda in future management of their urban canopy, including risk assessment, storm preparedness and much more.
