JUNIOR HIKERSOur Junior Hiker trips are designed to inspire young adventurers to connect with nature, build resilience, and develop a love for the outdoors. Your child will experience a unique blend of education, physical activity, and environmental stewardship through these guided hiking trips.Junior Hikers will explore local trails, learn about wildlife and plant life, and gain essential outdoor skills such as map reading, navigation, and Leave No Trace principles. Whether your child is a seasoned hiker or a first-timer, our experienced guides ensure a safe and supportive environment for all skill levels. In addition to hiking, the program emphasizes teamwork, leadership, and problem-solving through group challenges and fun activities. By the end of the summer, hikers will have not only gained physical fitness and outdoor knowledge but also a deeper appreciation for the natural world. Join us for an unforgettable journey through the great outdoors, where adventure and learning go hand in hand!NT RESIDENTS ONLYAges 6 - 18$150 per child (Sibling discount available)Included in the Junior Hikers fee: - 1 year Junior Hiker membership - 4 guided summer hikes to some of WNY's loveliest trails - Hiking pack the kids will use for their hikes - Hiking first aid kit for their packs - Junior Hiker membership patch - Bus ride to and from the hiking trails - Snacks for the bus - Trail Snacks - LunchIf you cannot make every trip, you can opt to join us for the ones you can. First, You will join Junior Hikers as an official member (1 time membership fee which is good for 1 calendar year).       WHAT'S UP?    Kids K - 12 Welcome Just $5 per event NT Residents Limited spots available Tuesdays, 7/15, 7/22, 7/29, 8/5, 8/12 & 8/19Staff will be on hand so parents don't have to stay but are more than welcome to join in on our space exploration adventures.The North Tonawanda Recreation Department is ecstatic to offer this free summer astronomy program for kids again. Curious young ones will be allowed to use telescopes and binoculars, including an 80mm telescope capable of viewing deep sky objects with relative ease.Each class will offer a new lesson on various stellar, lunar, and planetary phenomena. Our resident astronomical enthusiast, Tom Arida, will offer up enthusiastic discussions, exciting experiments, and thrilling viewing opportunities to stimulate your young minds and pique your interest in further space exploration.Topics this year will include but will be limited to: 1. Light and Photography 2. Reflection and Refraction 3. Electrical Engineering 1 4. Electrical Engineering 2 5. Rocket Training 6. Aliens Each week we will provide light beverages and snacks and perhaps an extra special treat here and there.       WHAT'S UP?    Kids K - 12 Welcome Just $5 per event NT Residents Limited spots available Tuesdays, 7/15, 7/22, 7/29, 8/5, 8/12 & 8/19Staff will be on hand so parents don't have to stay but are more than welcome to join in on our space exploration adventures.The North Tonawanda Recreation Department is ecstatic to offer this free summer astronomy program for kids again. Curious young ones will be allowed to use telescopes and binoculars, including an 80mm telescope capable of viewing deep sky objects with relative ease.Each class will offer a new lesson on various stellar, lunar, and planetary phenomena. Our resident astronomical enthusiast, Tom Arida, will offer up enthusiastic discussions, exciting experiments, and thrilling viewing opportunities to stimulate your young minds and pique your interest in further space exploration.Topics this year will include but will be limited to: 1. Light and Photography 2. Reflection and Refraction 3. Electrical Engineering 1 4. Electrical Engineering 2 5. Rocket Training 6. Aliens Each week we will provide light beverages and snacks and perhaps an extra special treat here and there. Whether your child is a beginner or an intermediate, this program provides an opportunity for students to get guided basic instruction and time to practice on the course with a group of peers.  Golf clubs are recommended; however, we will have a few youth club sets for shared use. Days:    Tuesdays (11-14 year olds)               Thursdays (8-10 year olds)Dates:   June 24 - August 21Times:   8:30-10:30am OR 10:30-12:30pmCost:    $100 (residents)  $120 (non-residents)*Start and end times may be adjusted depending on the groupStudents will meet at the practice green at Deerwood Golf Course (1818 Sweeney Street).  Click here for more information

Our experienced staff will be on hand to teach you the skills you need to make the most out of your next Outdoor AdveNTure!You will learn skills such as: Knots and Camp Gadgets Building a shelter Conservation Setting up a campsite Protecting yourself outdoors Get to know basic camp tools Preparing for and how to build a campfire And much, much more...       WHAT'S UP?    Kids K - 12 Welcome Just $5 per event NT Residents Limited spots available Tuesdays, 7/15, 7/22, 7/29, 8/5, 8/12 & 8/19Staff will be on hand so parents don't have to stay but are more than welcome to join in on our space exploration adventures.The North Tonawanda Recreation Department is ecstatic to offer this free summer astronomy program for kids again. Curious young ones will be allowed to use telescopes and binoculars, including an 80mm telescope capable of viewing deep sky objects with relative ease.Each class will offer a new lesson on various stellar, lunar, and planetary phenomena. Our resident astronomical enthusiast, Tom Arida, will offer up enthusiastic discussions, exciting experiments, and thrilling viewing opportunities to stimulate your young minds and pique your interest in further space exploration.Topics this year will include but will be limited to: 1. Light and Photography 2. Reflection and Refraction 3. Electrical Engineering 1 4. Electrical Engineering 2 5. Rocket Training 6. Aliens Each week we will provide light beverages and snacks and perhaps an extra special treat here and there.
