Introduction to Kayaking (as part of the NTBGO Celebrate our Beginnings Event)

The North Tonawanda Botanical Gardens Organization will be hosting a Bicentennial Celebration of the Erie Canal on Saturday September 27, 2025.  As part of the celebration event, Paths Peaks & Paddles in partnership with the Nor-Ton Red Jacket Club & Parks & Recreation Department will be hosting three sessions of Intro to Kayaking.

Location: Botanical Gardens (1825 Sweeney Street)
Date: September 27, 2025
Cost
: FREE!

Session 1:  10am-11:30am
Session 2:  12pm-1:30pm
Session 3:  2:30pm-4:00pm

Requirements:
  • For BEGINNERS only
  • Participants must be at least 10 years old (children 10-17 yrs old MUST be accompanied by an adult)
  • Adult chaperone should only register themselves if they plan on participating in a kayak (otherwise they should plan to observe from the shore).
  • Additional waiver must be signed on site
What to expect:
  • On shore instruction including safety, types & fitting of life jackets, equipment & use, entering & existing kayak
  • Equipment provided on-site includes life jacket, kayak, paddle
  • An incredible watersport experience on the NYS Canal provided by kayak experts
  • Participants required to stay together as a group on land & water

What to bring:
  • Proper Dress: non-cotton layers of clothing that can get wet but keep you warm; footwear that can get wet
  • Water Bottle
  • Sunscreen
  • A safe place to store electronics
  • No pets, food or snacks allowed in the kayaks
